The rooms at Bob & Maxine's Backpackers are just incredible, dude! Like, seriously, some rooms have a patio with this sick view of the mountains. It's, like, breathtaking, man. As a nature lover, it was totally my vibe!
Some people might be into it, but personally, I wasn't a fan of all the extras in the lodge. It was a bit overwhelming for me.

The bathrooms were quite cold. The lounge and kitchen area was huge and comfortable with a warm fire. The setting was picturesque and the llamas were a unique and enjoyable experience. The location was away from the town center but still accessible, especially with the bikes available for borrowing.
Everything was wonderful. The only negative aspect was the cold bathrooms.

The decor of the hotel was charming and cozy, with warm colors and comfortable furniture that made me feel right at home. The common areas were spacious and easily accessible for senior people like myself, with wide hallways and plenty of seating options. I appreciated how well-maintained and clean everything was, creating a welcoming atmosphere for relaxation and socializing with other guests.
It would have been even better if there were more staff available to assist senior guests with any additional needs or requests. Sometimes, the children working there seemed overwhelmed with their responsibilities, and it would have been helpful to have more assistance readily available for a smoother and more enjoyable vacation experience for senior people.

My stay at Bob & Maxines Backpackers was absolutely delightful. The cozy atmosphere made me feel right at home. The roaring log fire in the huge lounge was a perfect spot to relax and unwind. The kitchen had everything I needed, and the fresh fruit and coffee station were a lovely touch. The dorm rooms were spacious and clean, with comfy mattresses and blankets. The hosts, Bob and Maxine, were incredibly welcoming and went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. They even had alpacas on the property, which I adored. The free wifi and availability of bikes were added bonuses. it was a warm, clean, and quiet place to stay, perfect for some much-needed rest. Despite being a bit out of town, there were transportation options available, whether it be by car, bike, or a scenic walk. I highly recommend Bob & Maxines Backpackers for a pleasant and enjoyable stay.

This place feels like home with a big lounge, fireplace, and stunning mountain views. They even provide free bikes and parking. Bob is practically the king of kayaking and Maxine gives the warmest welcome. Definitely worth exploring the leafy road to Milford Sound.
Oh, what a bummer, there's just not much to do in town. But hey, if you enjoy peaceful rest on a budget, then this is your spot.

I chose to stay at Bob & Maxines Backpackers because of its close proximity to the Te Anau Lion Lookout Point, a landmark I wanted to visit. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the laundry facilities offered at the property. It was convenient and made my stay even more comfortable. Additionally, I really liked the fact that Bob & Maxines Backpackers has a barbecue available for guests to use.
The Deluxe Queen Room we rented was described as having a "private bathroom," but it turned out to be a shared bathroom with the couple in the room across the hall. Furthermore, the cleanliness of the shared bathroom fell short of our expectations.

I recently stayed at this incredible backpackers lodge for a few nights and I had an amazing time. The setting of the lodge is absolutely picturesque, situated in a beautiful farm-like environment. The communal area is exceptionally spacious and comfortable, perfect for relaxing and socializing. The bathrooms are large and spotlessly clean, which was a huge plus. The rooms themselves were simple, yet quite spacious and very comfortable. What really made my stay unique and memorable were the llamas on the property. I had the opportunity to feed them in the morning, which was such a delightful experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a cozy and unique accommodation option.
Totally recommend this hotel.
